Things paintings project

Coming soon!

THINGS · Work in progress [1994-200?]
In June 1996, the THINGS project encompasses 142 paintings.

Dimensions: 30 x 30 cm [11.8 x 11.8 inches]
Technique: Acrylic paint, graphite, aluminum and object (wood, fabric, cardboard, metal, plastic) on canvas.
Presentation: 4, 9, 16, 25 or 36 paintings can be compiled to make up a block, depending on the conditions of the exhibition space. Presentation of paintings in a horizontal chain at eye level also acceptable.

Whilst browsing in Strand Bookstore in New York (around 1994), I discovered a passage in Ludwig Wittgenstein's "Zettel" that sparked off the THINGS project:

"In art it is difficult to say something which is just as good as saying nothing at all."

The less an artist obtrudes himself in his painting, the purer and clearer his aims. The THINGS-Project was born.

Each painting comes with a POCKET handmade especially for the THINGS painting series. Things in art are not things.
1995 Exhibition in the Mainkurstrasse in Frankfurt am Main of 14 object-pictures plus 25 pictures taken from the THINGS project.
Four paintings from the THINGS series in the Luna Gallery in Taos, New Mexico. A THINGS block with No.'s 158-166 was exhibited in the Dana Bieff Gallery, 584 Broadway, New York.

Anything is something

"Coming to be anything is something. Not coming to be anything is something. Loving is something. Not loving is something. Loving is loving. Something is something. Anything is something.

Anything is something. Not coming to anything is something. Loving is something. Needing coming to something is something. Not needing to coming to something is something. Loving is something. Anything is something.

Knowing something is something. Knowing something and not meaning anything is something. Knowing something and not meaning anything and telling that thing is something."

A canvas is never empty

"A pair of socks is no less suitable to make a painting with than wood, nails, turpentine, oil and fabric. A canvas is never empty."

— Robert Rauschenberg

everything is experiment

"The dead plans of dogmatic innovation must fall before the clear existance of living experiment, and the sectarianism of theoretical 'isms'—those new nests of contemporary fanaticism—will fall."

— Aleksandr Rodschenko (1920)
